My name is Zulima but I go by Ms. Zuli. I have been homeschooling four bouncy baby boys for the past 18 years which means they are not such babies anymore. My eldest is off to college and then I have 9th, 7th, and 4th graders still at home. Homeschooling has been an incredible journey for us. It’s not been easy but God has been so faithful. Our eldest received a full scholarship to a wonderful university this past year. I love to share with families what worked for us and one of those things was finding and using the Institute for Excellence in Writing curriculum when our eldest was in 4th grade. Ever since then I have used the program to get many children excited about writing — even boys who would rather be playing outside all day! I have also taught Shakespeare and produced one of Shakespeare’s plays selling out five full shows last year. In case you would like to see some of the wonderful scenes and pictures from those events, here is a link to our FB page.
I have a B.S. in Journalism and Political Science and a Masters Degree in English Education. We have and continue to strive to teach our children to love God with all of their hearts, make a difference in lives of their fellow mankind, and pledge allegiance and gratitude to their country. We are grateful for the opportunity to homeschool in a country that has given us this freedom.
I met the Lord Jesus when I was just 8 years old when I was attending chapel at a Lutheran Christian school. My faith grew much in those years as I read and studied His word. My teen / college years were a difficult time due to instability at home but the Lord was faithful and gave me a wonderful man to marry when I had finished college. I thank God every day for putting us together as he is truly God’s love in my life. I joined his Baptist church after our wedding and we currently attend Brandywine Valley Baptist Church in Delaware. We thank God that our eldest son displays a deep and living relationship with the Lord. Unbelievably, and to God be the glory, he still calls to read the Bible with his brothers every night — even as a freshman studying in a university in Chicago. This wonderful commitment to sharing the Word with us every night is an answer to prayer and shows the mighty power of God in our lives as my husband and I had struggled to make this a night-time routine on our own. My strength is devotionals in the morning and my husband’s is taking us to church and worship events. But I had such a longing to read His pure word with the kids and God put this desire in my son’s heart without me directly asking Him. Truly He wishes to give us good and righteous things.
I love scrapbooking, swimming, watching historical sagas, listening to classical music, Shakespeare, dancing, and spending time with the love of my life.
