I began teaching in 1978 by forcing my little brothers to “play school” during summer breaks. I began my paid teaching career in 1993 by teaching at a public high school in Michigan. In my 25 years of experience teaching, I have also taught at a community college, an alternative school, and a virtual online school. Currently I teach Geometry and Algebra at a public high school while I homeschool my son.
I graduated from Western Michigan University in 1992 with a degree in Mathematics, History, and Education. In 2005, I earned a Masters’ Degree in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College in Detroit.
I believe that students learn by DOING! Therefore, I incorporate the fun practice of skills and real life application as often as possible.
I accepted Christ in Sunday school as a child, thanks to loving teachers who showed and lived the love of Jesus. Since that day, I have grown ever closer to the Father as I learn of his character through the Bible, local church leaders, and the great teachers of the faith. I am sustained by the beauty, joy, and truth found in the Word, and in a relationship with Jesus. Our family attends a local Bible-believing church, and are active in the youth programs.
I love to travel, learn about our country’s history, and visit the beautiful and varied landscapes that can be found in the United States. I have visited over 150 National Parks and 47 states. Our family travels the country in a micro-camper, and my son earns Junior Ranger badges at the parks we visit.
