A Bit About Me
I am passionate about education, nature, people and life! My husband, two teen boys and I live near Cincinnati Ohio. We are an active homeschool family and enjoy our free time together reading, watching movies, playing games or exploring the great outdoors.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education from Ohio University- Athens ( obtained Certification in Special Education) and some post graduate work on a Master of Arts in Reading and Literacy at Ohio State University. I am an OCVN Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist.
I am an experienced educator, as I have spent over 25 years in the education of children. I have worked for 10 years as a public school teacher. There, I taught various ages of children with a variety of educational needs in my work as a certified special needs teacher & intervention specialist. During my college summers I worked in camp leadership serving inner-city children in an outdoor setting. I currently home-school my 2 teen boys and have for the past 12+ years. I have taught nature study classes at my home-school co-op, taught art at a private school and I also work with local parks as a certified volunteer naturalist in historical interpretation and nature education. I have been a distance educator on Outschool for the past 4 years.
My Philosophy of Education
My philosophy of education is to do what works! As a teacher, it is my job to get to know my students and find out what works for each one! Students are individuals, and each one learns in their own unique way. I use multiple methods of teaching. (linguistic, visual, auditory, kinesthetic ) to reach students, so that everyone has an opportunity to connect and learn.
My ultimate goal as an educator is to bring my students into independence with their learning. I believe that all children are unique and have a lot they can bring to their own education. As a teacher, I want to empower my students with solid strategies for learning. To this end, my instruction starts with guiding students into deeper thinking, observation and experiences.
