“Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning.” – Robert John Meehan

I believe that teachers who love teaching AND love learning themselves, teach children to love learning. As a homeschool mother of 4 (ages 7, 9, 13, and 16) my goals are to never stop learning myself and to teach my children to love the process of learning just as much as what they are learning.

I have a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems and worked to earn my alternative teaching certification to transition from the business world to the classroom. As is often the case, God had other plans! My husband and I felt led to homeschool and I have been blessed to use that teaching knowledge with our own children instead of the classroom.

In addition to teaching my own children, I have had the pleasure of teaching at several different local homeschool co-ops for the past 8 years. I enjoy teaching both Literature and History because they spur my love of learning as much as my love of teaching them to students. I can read the same novel or study the same time period hundreds of times and still learn new things! I consider it a personal challenge to find ways to connect with each of my students and find ways to instill that same love of learning in them.

I grew up in a Christian home but I realize now that I really took it for granted! When our first child was born, I realized how impossible it was to raise children (at least how we wanted to raise our children) without fully relying on God. That lead me to a journey of developing my own faith – not just the faith my parents wanted me to have. Through that growth process, I have learned so much about our amazing Savior and what it means to believe fully in his plans. I continue to work at it every day through scripture study and by surrounding myself with others walking the same path I am. We are active members of a Bible Church, participating in all levels of youth group and adult bible studies.

Hobbies? I have four kids! Does laundry count? Ha ha! At this season of my life, my hobbies involve my kids. I truly enjoy watching them play sports and develop their passions. In the unusual times when I’m not driving them around, I enjoy reading, catching a movie with my husband, and watching history videos on Netflix. I serve as the treasurer for our local recreational soccer board and spend a lot of time hanging out with my sisters and parents.
