I’m a mother of three(ages 18, 16, 12) with a Master’s degree in French currently living in Nairobi, Kenya. I was an exchange student in France my Junior year of High School which was a hard but wonderful experience. When I chose French as my major in college I wasn’t sure what I would do with it but I ended up with a Master’s Degree after my Department Head offered me a Graduate Internship. That also gave me the opportunity to teach French 1 at the college level and run advanced French conversation groups. And the Lord has used those degrees in French many times in my life since then! I taught Middle School French (and one reading class) for two years before my first child was born, then I got to be a stay-at-home mom for the next 15 years. Towards the end of that time, the Lord moved us to Nairobi, Kenya where my husband got a job at an International Christian School. In Nairobi, I had the opportunity to tutor several people in French as they prepared for moves to France. Then, three years ago, I started teaching at the same school with my husband where I taught Middle School French and HS French 1. I learned so much in the last three years about second language acquisition and how to facilitate that in a classroom. I’ve learned how to use French from day one in a way that is comprehensible to my beginner students and we had fun making up silly characters and stories together as I helped them acquire French. I enjoyed my job but for flexibility with changing family situations, we felt like exploring online teaching would be a good change for me. I would love to work with your student to make language acquisition fun and practical…

I grew up in a Christian home, made a profession of faith at four, was baptized at six and have honestly walked with the Lord ever since. There are, however, a few key points along the way that have been major growth markers. I’ll share just a few.

That year in France when I was 16 was a huge time of spiritual growth. I was away from my family, friends, and everything I’d ever known. It was a scary time but by God’s grace, I turned to Him and His Word for comfort and my relationship with Him grew exponentially that year.

Fast forward almost 20 years… I was a mother of three children between the ages of one and seven. My husband was in Seminary and we were in a truly healthy church for the first time in our lives. In a sermon on John 10, our pastor made a statement that basically boiled down to “Jesus is all you need.” I started thinking about what that really means and I couldn’t get my mind around it. I was feeling the pressures of being a wife and mom and felt like I needed to ace those jobs and, yes, I needed Jesus, too. To make a long story short, that sent me on a “quest” of sorts and God used the book “Because He Loves Me” by Elyse Fitzpatrick to help me begin to get the relevancy of the gospel to my daily life – to see how Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection makes a difference for how I parent my children, and love my husband, and everything else that comes up in my day to day life. I am so thankful that Jesus loved me(and everyone else) enough to go to the cross and make a great exchange, taking my sins and all the penalties they incur on Himself and offering me His perfect record instead. Wow! Because He loves me like that; I can serve my family when it’s hard; I can show some extra patience with a difficult student; I can take time to listen, when I think I’m in a hurry…

Currently, I’m in a season of deepening my trust in the character of God. He is good. He is sovereign. He is wise. Particularly through this crazy year of 2020 and the COVID pandemic when things can easily feel out of control, I’m learning to rest in my knowledge of the One who is in control and to trust His goodness, even when things don’t feel good.

I enjoy reading out loud to my children (though the times they’ll let me do it are fewer and further between these days), and I like being outside enjoying &/or exploring God’s beautiful creation.

Biblical counseling is another interest and I’m in the process of getting more training in that area.

I also LOVE childbirth and enjoy helping young couples in our church prepare for the births of their babies.
