My name is Helen Justis and I am a Christian School teacher and former homeschooling mom. I have over 30 years of teaching experience in grades K-8 as a homeschool educator, and in self-contained classrooms as well as Middle School English and as a Media Specialist (school librarian who also teaches STEM). I also teach private, group and school and community orchestras, as well as have directed several violin camps. My passion is to help each child find their God-given talents and abilities, and to use them for His glory! I have also taught ESE for VIP Kid for 3 1/2 years and for Outschool for 6 months. I am a dedicated Christian and am struggling with some of the secular ideas that are taught on Outschool, so am looking to add Luma Learn so that I can teach Christian songs on the violin and encourage children in their walk with the Lord through their musical expression. Eventually, I would like to stop teaching in a traditional school and just teach from home, online. I absolutely love the online platform and find that I teach best here!
I was very blessed to be raised in a conservative Christian home. My parents were not the Sunday-only type, but were very active and took my brother and I to church at every opportunity. We loved it. My parents also walked the Christian life every day and still do, putting their trust in Christ alone for their Salvation. This model effected me greatly and as a young child, I also put my faith in Christ alone for my Salvation, based on the fact that I am a sinner and Jesus death and resurrection cancels my sin when I put my trust in him and accept Him as Lord and Savior. I was involved in children’s and youth ministry as I grew up. After High School, I went to Columbia International University and met my husband. I received my AA in Bible and we were married and served as missionaries to inner city children in Chicago for 5 years. Since that time, we have been in ministry one way or another, putting feet to our faith, living in obedience to Christ because we LOVE Him and it is a joy to serve Him every day. Later, I got my BA in Elementary Education and MA in Christian Education. We have raised 3 wonderful children (two biological and one adopted) to adulthood and they are all walking with the Lord and leading their families in the faith. None of this is because of what we have done, but because of what Christ has done through them. I am continually amazed at how faithful God is to us through the ups and downs of life. I look forward to the future, to see what God has in store next!
I love to read, play the violin, and play with my grandson! My husband of 33 years and I love to camp and canoe.
