Theology texts are usually written for the adult, but the author has found a way to plant seeds of foundational biblical truth in the child’s heart so that, from an early age, he/she is directed towards a true understanding of God and the Bible. We underestimate the capacity of children comprehending theological doctrines such as the omniscience of God (“God knows everything!”), the inspiration of the Bible (“God used men like pens”), and the immanence and transcendence of God (“God is near me and His home is Heaven”).
With over 20 individual lessons spanning 3 units, this course covers many of the same basic doctrinal subjects found in highly regarded evangelical Theology textbooks, but in a way that connects to the mind and heart of a child. As such, Theology for Children: God Revealed is great preparation for later study in Christian Apologetics or Christian Theology in the high school, college, and adult years.
Ideal for students ages 7 to 14– but beneficial even to high schoolers and adults who want to better understand the basic doctrines of our Christian faith– Theology for Children: God Revealed focuses mainly on the topics of God’s revelation, attributes, and nature, as well as what God does in the world. It introduces and explains in a systematic way answers to such questions as: Why and how did God reveal Himself to man? (general and special revelation); What is God like? (attributes of God); and many many more topics. These topics find their source in the Scriptures alone.
At the beginning of each lesson, as well as woven throughout, Scripture permeates each topic. And much more than addressing the mind alone, Theology for Children: God Revealed speaks to the heart. Each lesson shows how that topic relates to the unified Scriptural message of the Gospel and how each doctrinal truth is a part of God’s love story with man.
Finally, to reinforce concepts learned, the course provides a simple review worksheet the student fills out as well as a corresponding hands-on activity which involves depicting the concepts in understandable terms to either display or collate into a craft/picture notebook.
Stemming from years of study in systematic theology, biblical studies, and education, and from years of teaching Bible in college, women’s and children’s ministries, Theology for Children: God Revealed was developed as a primer for upper elementary and middle school children so that they would have a great basis to “know what they believe.”
With 21 individual topic lessons, this course could constitute a full-year, half-year, or even 2-year course, depending on the pace at which it is taken.
