In this 4 week self-paced class, beginning ukulele students will learn to play the famous song “Wipe Out”. I have taught this to dozens of ukulele classes and it is always a favorite. I will use flashcards as visual aids to help students learn the notes and chords. No prior knowledge is required, but it is recommended that students take the class “Play ‘Surf’ on your ukulele” first.
In the first class, I will cover the basics of playing the ukulele, specifically picking the notes on the E and A strings. I will teach the first pattern of the song, which repeats 10 times in the song!
In the 2nd class, I will teach the rest of the picking for the song, on the E, A an C strings.
In the 3rd class, I will review picking the song and learn the chords for the song (A, E and D7). I will teach the students the popular strum pattern used in “Wipe Out” (Down, Down Up, Up, Down Up).
In the 4th class, I will teach the students how to do a “scratch” strum pattern. Then I will model putting the whole song together and give the students tips and tricks to play the song faster and faster.
Since practice is an important part of learning an instrument, students should practice 15 minutes, 4 days per week for a total of 60 minutes practice per week. Practice logs will be provided.
I have taught this song to literally hundreds of students! It is tricky and takes some practice, but it is so worth the effort because it is fun to play and sounds so impressive!
