- Taught from a Biblical standpoint. Verses are memorized for each unit.
- Students in this course build on their Spanish knowledge by learning more complex grammatical structures and become equipped to read and understand a variety of literary selections and gain necessary skills to interact verbally and in writing with Spanish speakers in varied social and business situations.
- Students continue their study of the language throughout nine units:

- key vocabulary topics: let’s go camping; let’s go to the beach
- grammar concepts: preterite & imperfect
- key vocabulary topics: all for one and one for all!; how do we get organized?
- grammar concepts: commands, commands with pronouns, and impersonal expressions
- key vocabulary topics: how will the future be?; for a better future
- grammar concepts: future, “por” vs. “para”, present subjunctive
- key vocabulary topics: who inspires you?; who are the heroes?
- grammar concepts: future tense, subjunctive with verbs of influence, emotions, and opinions
- key vocabulary topics: let’s communicate among nations; new friends, new opportunities
- grammar concepts: formal commands, pronouns, & negative words
- key vocabulary topics: life in the city; out of the city
- grammar concepts: past participle, present, past & future perfect tense
- key vocabulary topics: memories; new beginnings
- grammar concepts: subjunctive, conditional, & tense sequence
- key vocabulary topics: stories and poetry; drama
- grammar concepts: past progressive tense, conjunctions, “se” for unintentional occurrences, uses of the subjunctive
- Each unit consists of new Biblical memory verses, musical introductions, two new vocabulary themes and several grammar concepts; reading and listening comprehension activities, speaking and writing activities, multimedia cultural presentations, and interactive activities and practices which reinforce vocabulary and grammar.
- Students are expected to be actively engaged in their own language learning: use of a flipped-class format; synchronous live classes and asynchronous additional activities (common vocabulary terms and phrases, wide range of grammar patterns in speaking and writing, conversations and response, analysis and comparison of cultural practices, products, and perspectives of various Spanish-speaking countries).
- Strong emphasis on providing context and conversational examples.
- Frequent assessments to monitor language progression.
- Students are introduced as well to a wealth of self-learning resources and techniques for continuous and effective learning.
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- Engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
- Understand and interpret written and spoken Spanish on a variety of topics.
- Present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the practices and perspectives of the Spanish and Hispanic cultures, and make comparisons between these cultures and your own.
- Reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines (math, science, art, etc.) through the use of Spanish.
- Show evidence of becoming a life-long learner by using Spanish for their personal enjoyment and enrichment.
