Needed: Children with a strong sense of adventure, wanting to learn how to write and act out stories that glorify God, and seeking to have fun with their teacher and fellow classmates.
Hi everyone! I’m Lydia Reynolds, a 2017 homeschool graduate, and author to children’s adventure stories. This year, I’m offering a live Christian writing class for interested elementary students. Recommended for 4th and 5th graders. This will develop the student’s writing skills, and will include storytelling skills as well. We will work on building stories from a Christian perspective (making heroes with strong Christian morals, using Scripture to build confidence, etc).
Starting September 13th, we will meet for an hour once a week. It will run for 34 weeks, a school year’s course, taking breaks for holidays. I will be teaching: writing tips, themes in writing (courage, faith, loyalty, sacrifice, etc), writing a short story (no longer than five chapters) and presenting stories to the class (first rule to writing: Don’t be shy of sharing your work).
Included in this course will be:
– Writing Exercises, where we will write inspirational scenes; discuss Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How questions; Observations on nature and the five senses.
– Short stories, where the students learn the parts of a story, and write inspiring beginnings, riveting cliffhangers, and strong endings.
– Learning the right balance of description v. dialogue in a story
– Storytelling (tips on how to present your book, not be shy of sharing it with others, and creative ways to tell an inspiring story)
Depending on the learning level they’re at, and the lesson of the week, each student will be required to fill out word lists, preform writing exercises, and complete writing assignments. I will guide them through each lesson, allowing for differing grade level skills. We will mostly cover the writing material in class, but there may be weeks that I assign the students something for them to do between classes. I will not be grading their work, unless upon request.
Open to all, even if you’ve missed the first classes! If you have any questions, or would like to contact me, my email is: [email protected]
I have had lots of wonderful babysitting experiences, storytelling with children at elementary schools, and private tutoring sessions with eager, young writers. I love working with children, reading to them, and helping them act out stories, so I’m really excited about teaching this class!
