This fun, low-pressure course is designed for mature 3rd graders to 5th graders or students who struggle. This is a gentle paced course that will introduce students to the structure and style method while learning about some humorous characters, fascinating creatures, and exciting events. Focus is on learning the writing process and enjoying it instead of focusing on grades. Students are encouraged to actively participate via microphone and webcam. They will see and hear each other as they learn, helping to provide a classroom experience. The ability to type in the chat is not required. Students are given the opportunity to present their stories to the class. Space is limited in order to provide a more personalized experience.
Parental involvement is key to success and therefore parents are always welcome in class and are encouraged to help younger students with the online experience. Students are required to submit typed assignments. Parents are encouraged to scribe for students until they feel comfortable on their own.
Students will have a live, interactive class. A break will be provided in the middle of class to facilitate attentiveness. Students will have assignments every week. Attending live class is essential for success however sessions will be recorded for review.
This class is by far one of my favorites to teach. The source material is engaging. Both boys and girls enjoy reading the book and writing their own pieces. Their enthusiasm during class encourages one another. Even the shyest students eagerly share their work. Students do not even realize that grammar is integrated into the writing.
