Everyone needs understanding of AI: Artificial Intelligence. What is it? How does it affect me? What are the privacy and bias concerns for citizens around the world? No person, organization or government is exempt from the coming impact. We need education to ensure humane ethics are followed as AI is implemented. There are limited laws regulating this area of life, and the implications of this is dire. Who is responsible to ensure AI is implemented responsibly? Every single one of us!
The age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now. Businesses have been thrust into a virtual world where attention is being suddenly given to implementation of AI initiative, we thought would take years to transition to. There are ethical implications with bias that need to be considered. Toyota Corporation does not have a quality department. Quality is every employee’s role. Business leaders will benefit greatly with a strategy to build infrastructure correctly. This class identifies the ethics of the matter.
(1) The core idea
Humans have bias, and we are being tasked to feed AI information. In my talk I share about China, and how they are utilizing AI with surveillance and re-educating people of Muslim faith to conform their thought to obey the communist regime.
(2) Why it matters
There are privacy implications with a surveillance system gathering data about us. Will we be controlled by our governments with expectations to think a certain way? With research conducted for this speech, I found there is little difference between data mining in China verses the USA. Why it matters to the tech industry, is how the data will be utilized & manipulated in our future of a growing AI predominant society.
Students will leave this course understanding the ethical implications of building infrastructure with AI at the core.
This course has been created by Alexia Georghiou who brings 25 years of experience & expertise with medical ethics through her work in community mental health & social work. Alexia has served as a HIPAA Privacy Officer and has specific training in Bias. She recently completed the course, ‘AI for Everyone,’ gaining understanding of Artificial Intelligence. Her course combines the ethics of her profession as a counselor and social worker, challenging the student to think about ethics with AI. All of the frailty of humanity with our conflict, & bias has given artificial intelligence data through our history. This has resulted in an already flawed system. The course is carefully researched with a reference sheet given with all links and resources.
