In this one year English course, we will delve into proper usage of grammar, breaking down and identifying parts of speech, capitalization, punctuation, sentence structure, and diagramming sentences. I will be helping the students step by step in the writing process, providing feedback and helping them improve their writing skills as we explore various types of writing, such as the compare and contrast essay, the descriptive paragraph and essay, persuading an audience, poetry, and many more. We will have a fun and educational school year together while using the very thorough and Christ-centered Bob Jones Writing and Grammar text for Grade 7.
Besides the text, we will use various handouts and examples from many sources, which will be posted for the students to access easily. This course will go along nicely with the U.S. History with Literature course I will be offering in the hour before this one. When combined, this course can easily be counted for an eighth or ninth grader for high school English credit, be sure and check with your school or home school group adviser if you do not home school independently. I will provide a course syllabus at the beginning of each semester, so you can see how the class will be broken down and so your student can be working on their English homework even if they have to miss class. For those of you who need to provide a Course Description, I will post one you can use.
